8Club reached out with an exciting ask, craft an onboarding video that captures the essence of their platform.
8Club is a members-only social platform that curates offline experiences called “Hotspots” designed for people to meet, connect, and build real communities. This video needed to introduce what 8Club is, what makes it different, and what users can expect next.
The brief was open-ended: no brand style guide, no visual references—just a clear ask for a video that felt fresh, dynamic, and uniquely them.
The Output
Building a narrative without a blueprint
8Club isn’t just an events platform, it’s a curated experience. It’s about music, moments, and memory-making. So from the start, I knew the video couldn’t just “tell” people about 8Club. It had to sound like a beat drop, move like a dance floor, and look like a late-night poster you’d want to steal.
With no fixed brand system, I had the freedom to build something from scratch but it still had to feel unmistakably “8Club.”
Roles & Responsibilities
I was brought on as the communication designer to lead the entire process—from scripting and storyboarding to visual design and final animation.

Script Development
I developed the script from scratch, a process I always enjoy, because crafting the narrative is just as important to me as designing the visuals. It’s a big part of how I work: shaping the story, tone, and experience end-to-end.
Design & Animation Execution
I chose a mixed-media approach to reflect 8Club’s eclectic and analog-meets-digital aesthetic.
No brand assets? No problem.
I crafted a distinct visual style tailored to the product!
Vinyl textures and spinning records to anchor the concept in sound. Cutout imagery and photo-based elements to reflect real-world moments. Stark typography with kinetic type motion to maintain energy and pace. A limited but high-contrast palette to keep visuals striking and clean.
Everything was built directly in Figma and After Effects, keeping the production nimble while still polished.
The Output
Response
The onboarding video is seen by every new user who downloads the 8Club app - currently over 24K+ downloads. It plays before users are asked to sign up, and the goal was to set the tone and build intrigue.
The video was appreciated for how it hyped up the experience before users had to enter their details, making the signup flow feel more intentional and exciting. Several team members noted that it helped users understand the vibe of the brand instantly and encouraged them to complete the onboarding faster.
The animation is now a core part of the app’s first impression.
